Historic Royal George Hotel, Perth for sale after 20 years in same family ownership

Perth’s historic Royal George Hotel has been placed on the market after 20 years of family ownership, including its basement, recently leased to a gin distillery start-up.

Colliers International is acting for husband and wife team Eddie and Lorna Anderson, and their son Ed Anderson, in the sale of the 3-star hotel, which has 46 letting bedrooms and is being sold as a going concern.

The Royal George has been a landmark of the Scottish city since early Victorian times and there has been an inn on its Tay Street premises for around 250 years.

Alistair Letham, a director in the UK hotels agency team at Colliers International, commented “The Royal George Hotel has been an important and iconic business on the Perth hotel scene for centuries, and this continues to this day - even more so thanks to its superb location overlooking the River Tay and close to all the major venue and attractions in the city centre of Perth.

“The Royal George Hotel is an extremely well established and well-known hotel business and it produces good and regular profitability.”

The Royal George has a spectacular location in Perth’s city centre, overlooking the River Tay and close to the major city centre venues and attractions – Horsecross Conference and Concert Hall, Perth Museum, Perth Theatre and the City Hall.

The city centre hotel has an impressive range of bar, restaurant, conservatory, function room and meeting room facilities. An exciting addition in 2019 is the lease of premises in the basement to Perth Gin, to develop and create a gin distillery on the premises.

The Royal George Hotel has been in the same family hands – the Anderson family – for some 20 years. Eddie Anderson (Snr) has worked in the hotel trade for 50 years, and the hotel is now being offered for sale to facilitate his retirement.

Colliers international is inviting offers of around £3m for The Royal George Hotel, Tay Street, Perth, PH1 5LD.
