Having started his career as a Registered Valuer, Shane entered the real estate profession in 1993 with iconic Stock & Station company Pyne Gould Guinness Ltd. During this time Shane was involved in the sale of some of Canterbury's iconic farm properties becoming Company Real Estate Manager in 1998.

In 2002 Shane was a key driver in establishing Bayleys Real Estate as a major force in the Canterbury market becoming Managing Director and shareholder in the franchise in 2005..

After 11 years with Bayleys, Shane formed Northington AgriCapital Ltd a specialist rural Investment Bank before establishing Colliers first NZ Rural franchise in October 2014.

Richard O'Sullivan
Director

Richard joined Colliers Rural and Agribusiness team from a strong agribusiness background, bringing with him a quality network of relationships in the sector.

After graduating from Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Agriculture, Richard has spent the past 15 years in technical, agribusiness and banking based rural roles gaining diverse experience across finance, operations, farm development and sales/syndications. His background has given him an extensive skill set in the fields of real estate, business planning, rural finance, governance, due diligence and project management. 

Richard looks forward to working alongside accomplished real estate agents Shane O’Brien and Ruth Hodges to continue to offer clients local expertise, backed by the extensive national and global reach of the Colliers brand..

Jonny O'Sullivan

Jonny joins the Colliers Rural and Agribusiness team with a wealth of farming knowledge and expertise. He has been farming in equity partnerships for the past 10 years. The first seven years was a 7,500 stock unit sheep and beef property near Clinton, South Otago. Jonny and Tracy still own a financial interest in this property. The last three years farming was at Ikawai, South Canterbury, on a large scale dairy farm.

This experience gives Jonny a solid platform when it comes to understanding what is required to run a successful farm business. He has experience in management, compliance, governance, strategy, finance and working with key professionals.

Alex Cooney

Alex has a strong rural background having built a career servicing the rural sector. A graduate of Lincoln College with a Bachelor of Commerce (Agriculture & Management), Alex worked for a National rural supplies company in the Waikato before taking up a position as a rural manager with ANZ Bank in South Canterbury. In these roles Alex has developed a wide range of skills across finance and farming operations as well as environmental and operational knowledge.

Alex added to these skills when travelling abroad taking up a role as a Credit Analyst for Credit 4 in London and travelling for 18 months before returning to join Colliers International.

Alex believes in building strong relationships with his clients that allows him to understand what is required to consistently achieve the best results. His experience in the rural field sees Alex well positioned to add value to the sales process. His collaborative, friendly nature and ability to relate to a large cross section of people from farmers to rural professionals will ensure  the very best outcomes are achieved every time.

Alex has lived in Canterbury for over 6 years, the people and the relationships he has formed in that time is what drives him and he will utilise his growing knowledge of the area, rural expertise and sales skills to assist others in achieving their goals.
