Being exposed to a range of real estate projects and new challenges has ignited Hailey's interest in the property sector. She wants to hone her analytical skills, and in the longer term take on managerial role and drive new projects.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO APPLY FOR THE ALL-STAR GRADUATES PROGRAMME AT COLLIERS?
I applied for the All-Stars Graduate Program at Colliers as I believe the exposure gained through experiencing the inner workings of the various departments would be useful to understanding my strengths and weaknesses. Since this is a management trainee role which puts us on a job rotation programme, spending a short period of time at different departments, it offers a lot of flexibility and will help to identify a good job-fit for us at Colliers. I expect this role to provide hands-on learning and offer a comprehensive view of Colliers’ operations and business lines in Singapore. Being almost at the end of my second rotation stint, I would say that my expectations are mostly met. The culture is very inclusive and typically any suggestions that we bring up would be met with welcome despite being new additions to the team.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE EXPERIENCE OF WORKING AT COLLIERS THUS FAR?
Working at Colliers is like working amongst family. The environment is such that everyone tries to help one another and it seems like workplace politics are a thing of myth. The culture is relaxed for the most part, and an emphasis is placed on learning and development for the All-Star Graduates (currently Colliers' Management Trainee program). The people are very professional and knowledgeable in their field, and they never hesitate to take time out of their busy schedule to answer queries or help us out. It is a conducive environment to learn and excel.
IN WHAT WAY DOES WORKING HERE COMPLEMENT OR ENHANCE WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNT IN SCHOOL?
Back in school at NUS Real Estate, what we learnt were comprehensive in theoretical aspects, and also some hands-on learning through project work. Being at in Colliers and working with industry professionals have helped to enhance this learning as we have to put these theories into action, meeting the industry standards and bench-marking practices which we only hear or read about in school.
While we were in school, most of the learning takes place through a set syllabus but in Colliers, there are points of learning at every turn which keep things interesting and us on our toes.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS AND HOW DO YOU THINK COLLIERS CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE THEM?
In the short-term, I hope to continue my work in Colliers in a consultancy capacity to further hone my analytical skills and I look forward to working well in my team after being assigned to a department at the end of programme. Currently, I am trying to develop and sharpen my skill set by learning industry practices and how to network with clients more effectively.
In the long-term, I hope to take on managerial roles to spearhead projects and develop new ideas. To prepare for this, I will try to take on more proactive roles in team projects and develop myself through attending conferences and workshops. Although I have just graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, I may also consider taking a Master’s Program in the future in order to excel in this field of interest.
WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU ARE NOT HARD AT WORK? TELL US ABOUT YOUR INTERESTS AND HOBBIES?
I am a person who is very much in love with nature, so whenever possible I would be taking a stroll in parks or hanging out at the beach with my friends. Being a sociable person and a nature lover, being out in nature while in the company of others offers the best of both worlds. Physical well-being is a priority for me, as a healthy body is a healthy mind. I spend most of my free time working out or doing yoga with my family and friends.
Cooking is also my passion, and I like experimenting in the kitchen from watching Youtubers such as Laura in the Kitchen’s cooking videos. My mom is - unfortunately - usually the first one to test out my creations and not all of them were great (especially during my first few times in the kitchen). In my free time, I read a variety of books from genres including theology, biographies and fantasy.
