Invest in Relationships: Elia Lee, Senior Manager, Capital Markets & Investment Services

Investing in relationships with our clients has always been a priority for Elia. To find out more, we ask her how she helps our clients accelerate their success through her real estate experience.

“As we witness every day, the world is closely interconnected. Our real estate market is the same.  My previous relationships with clients and colleagues in Office Services continue to benefit my work in capital markets. This is why I always try to treat people with respect and honesty, as I always take a long-term approach when I work with someone,” said Elia Lee, a Senior Manager on our Capital Markets & Investment Services team in Seoul, Korea.

How long have you worked in the real estate industry and how did you come to join Colliers?

I started in the real estate industry about ten years ago, right after coming back home from the U.S, where I got my Master's degree and worked as a researcher.  Moving from the non-profit sector to this fascinating industry was a big step for me.  I was able to enjoy my role as a broker in Seoul primarily because I found it very interesting to build bridges between my corporate clients and colleagues from all over the world.

Ten years later, I made another career shift within Colliers as I transitioned from the Office Services team into Capital Markets.  My new role in the CMIS team has broadened my view on the Korean real estate market thanks to Joon Lee, who allowed me to join his team.

Based on your experience, where are you focusing your attention and how do you build up good relationships with your clients

Despite the ongoing Covid situation, we are getting a lot of traction and interest in overseas markets, so I have been having frequent conversations with my investor clients by arranging regular calls, meeting or webinars.  For Korean outbound investors, we heavily leverage Colliers’ global networks to showcase our capabilities as one global team. Collaboration across borders is our key strategy to differentiate ourselves and show investors how well we can communicate and partner with our global offices.

To meet foreign investors’ individual needs for the Korea market, I continuously identify domestic investment opportunities and regularly update them on market trends with in-depth reports. Although this is probably considered to be a basic step for any broker to get close to their clients, persistence and sincerity have been always my priority to make a difference.

What opportunities are you seeing in the market?

By working together with Harold Lee, who recently joined our CMIS team as a Senior Director from a major Korean investment banking group, my goal is to expand Colliers Korea’s footprint not only in Korea but also across the world.

Colliers Korea has already increased our profile and brand awareness in the market through various significant domestic transactions since our relaunch in 2017, but I believe that our team has enormous potential to grow domestically with an increased focus on cross-border business as we are witnessing all different kinds of investment opportunities for both inbound and outbound investors.
