Senior Vice President, Corporate Accounting
Ms. Southerland has more than 39 years experience in the real estate industry, all of which have been with the firm. She served as Vice President of Finance and Corporate Accounting for over 20 years and was promoted to Senior Vice President, Corporate Accounting/Tri-State Region in 2018. Her main function is to oversee the revenue recognition process for the Tri-State Region and to ensure that the firm is in compliance with GAAP. She also manages the day to day operations of the Commission Billing Team which includes daily review of commission calculations, deal vouchers, commission invoices, leases and commission agreements. Additionally, she monitors most aspects of the brokers accounts including payroll, commission payable, receivables and draws. Since she has been with the firm for over 39 years, she works very closely with the Research Team to assist with historical transaction data.
She also serves as an authorized signatory and system administrator for most of the firm's corporate and REMS treasury accounts.
Ms. Southerland joined the firm, formerly known as Williams Real Estate Co. Inc. in 1981 as a part-time proofreader in the Auditing Department while still in high school. While attending college, she transferred to the Corporate Accounting Department where she became the Assistant Supervisor. After graduation, she worked full-time and shortly thereafter was promoted to Corporate Controller. In 1997, she was promoted to Vice President of Finance and Corporate Accounting for the New York office. In 2010, her role increased to include the entire Tri-state region. In 2018, she was promoted to Senior Vice President, Corporate Accounting|Tri-state.
In 2005, helped design and implement Broker's Performance System and Reports formerly used by Executive Team to monitor company's revenue, broker production and historical deal tracking.
Created the Broker Cash Receipt logs which are currently used to effectively track on a deal by deal basis, all collected commissions, payments and draws to brokers in the Tri-State Region.
Received the Colliers 2010 Most Dedicated Award for the New York Office.
