About

Professional Summary

Karen is the Operations Manager for the Detroit Office Agency Team.  She works exclusively with Gary Grochowski and Bryan Barnas.  She uses her diverse commercial real estate experience to assistant in most transactions.  From maintaining ongoing communications throughout the deal process with all participants and assisting in coordinating schedules.  She regularly reaches out to prospects helping to identify their needs and provide them with property infomation that suits what they are looking for.  Karen produces monthly and quarterly newsletters.

Karen has spent the major part of the last 32 years working as an Accounting Executive in various areas of Commercial Real Estate.   She started with a large developer preparing the financial reporting on 60 plus real estate development partnerships.  She handled due diligence for purchases/sales of parcels and buildings. She the spent 18 years as the Director of Property Management Accounting for a large commercial real estate brokerage firm - overseeing the accounting and reporting on approximately 20 million square feet of property - all 3rd party contracts - meaning none of this property was owned in house.  This role included hiring/developing staff and participating in the development of the department. Additionally, she actively participated in client presentations and direct one on one communications with clients on a regular basis.   Karen's only venture outside of commercial real estate - was working for Trinity Health - in Supply Chain - managing a staff of 16 employees in 3 different teams in the Procure to Pay department - specifically in Accounts Payable.   This department processed 250,000 invoices monthly with an annual spend of approximately $1.4 billion - as it processed all payables for 90 plus hospitals across the country.  Her teams included the "pay team" which handled all forms of payments:  paper checks, electronic, website, credit cards, etc., the RNI (Received not Invoiced) team and invoice issue resolution. While she learned a great deal and enjoyed the challanges at Trinity Health, Karen chose to return to commercial real estate - which she truly has a passion for.  Karen took on several contract roles until finding her home with Colliers and the Detroit Office Agency Team.  Karen's  strength's include process development/improvement, problem solving and customer service.

Accomplishments

Karen is proud of her role in developing a successful accounting department for a large brokerage firm/property management division.   It is important to her to be impactful - and she is proud of the processing changes she implemented at Trinity Health that inabled the team to reduce the RNI liability from $12m to $3m in 2 years.
