My Team
Dorothy Jackman
Executive Managing Director
Tampa
Dorothy has been in the student housing industry for 20+ years, having started her career in Gainesville, FL. She was first an on-site manager and later was recruited by the state’s largest locator company to become General Manager for their Gainesville operations. In that role she was able to assist owners achieve maximum occupancy, through client feed-back, working with her team and on-site teams to collaborate on all the traffic her firm sent to their properties. In some cases, through this collaboration, properties went from 40% occupancy levels up to 95% occupancy in one leasing season. Owners and developers consistently looked for her input on market conditions and suggestions on how to make their properties become most viable for the students.
As her role expanded and her influence spread, she was asked to become the lead spokesperson for the University of Florida during their Fall Orientations addressing parents and students on the processes and legalities associated with negotiating a lease in student housing properties in Gainesville. After a number of years in that role, Dorothy decided to become a broker focused entirely on student housing.
Prior to Dorothy joining Colliers International in 2012 as Managing Director of the National Student Housing Group, she was a Sr. VP with a national firm where she was instrumental in building a platform of student housing brokerage. Through these efforts, Ms. Jackman formed a group dedicated to student housing brokerage, training, mentoring and hiring other agents to work on the team. Her team provided early reports and data which were difficult to come by in the early years of student housing. As a result, her team was regarded as a resource, and it was through those initial efforts that the brand became prominent.
She also was influential in the roll-out of the industry’s only publication and continues to be interviewed often on various topics for the magazine.
Her role with Colliers is to continue strengthening relationships with owners, management companies, developers, investors and equity providers in the industry. Ms. Jackman has presented and moderated at the most prominent conferences in the space and is considered to be one of the industry’s preeminent experts. Dorothy believes in making the client’s needs her focus and assisting them in achieving their goals is her main priority.
