I specialize as a retail broker in Oakland’s dynamic urban core--representing landlords and tenants driving the exciting renaissance of Oakland and beyond. Working closely with Colliers colleagues Nadine Whisnant and Gregory Hunter, my geographic expertise includes Downtown Oakland, Uptown Oakland, Jack London, Lake Merritt, and Chinatown. We also represent clients in Berkeley, Emeryville and Walnut Creek, and often collaborate with colleagues in San Francisco as part of the “cross-bay” retail team.
I love the East Bay, and my clients benefit from my always-current knowledge of the area. Attending multiple Business District Improvement meetings each month, and patronizing small businesses and restaurants on a daily basis, keeps me in close touch with trends in the city. I also carefully follow the market data that impact my client’s real estate decisions.
Whether my clients are tenants or landlords, my job as their retail broker is to optimize their success by executing each and every detail of the transaction with care. Having competed as an athlete my whole life, and as the daughter of two successful small-business people who built a life in the Bay Area, competition and small business are in my blood. I love to see my clients succeed. Their success is my success is the community’s success, which is why I am so passionate about the work I do.

Nadine’s career focus has been retail brokerage since 1987, when she completed her MBA at Santa Clara University. Real Estate is in her blood as her grandfather and father both worked for Slattery Contracting in New York, who was involved in the construction of projects such as Lincoln Center, United Nations Headquarters and the World Trade Center. Her background has given her the unique opportunity to enjoy the creative and intuitive aspects of retail brokerage, while understanding the financial and legal complexities of a transaction. Her passion for discovering new retail concepts and remerchandising assets runs deep and has been continuous since she started in the business.
Nadine’s expertise includes varied aspects of retail and development. She has consulted on the development and re-merchandising of numerous projects and properties. Her brokerage responsibilities have included acquisitions and dispositions of numerous assets. She has structured various transactions including land leases, institutional grade properties, development sites and investment sales. Her creativity and tenacity have proved invaluable to her clients.
Through her passion for working with individual property owners, family trusts, and retailers on high street locations, Nadine has developed unique expertise spanning the prime retail streets in the San Francisco Bay Area. Over the years she has worked with clients to achieve some of the highest rents in the market with desirable retailers. She has a reputation with her clients structuring term of the lease.
In addition to her work with street retail, Nadine has worked with institutional owners, large developers, insurance companies and REIT’s. Her wide range of experience, developed through decades in retail brokerage, has proven invaluable to her clients. Through experience comes creativity in areas of merchandising, structuring transactions, and problem solving.
Nadine has relationships with many of the retailers active in today’s market. Her tenure in the industry has allowed her to develop relationships with the majority of the brokers active in her industry. These relationships allow her to represent her client’s interests, and maximize their exposure. My brokerage practice encompasses the office, retail and industrial real estate sectors of Oakland and the larger East Bay. Prior to my brokerage career, I worked for 16 years in development and planning for the City of Oakland, and I believe that my deep understanding of both public and the private sectors provides meaningful value to the investors, landlords and tenants I represent.
While serving as Director for the City of Oakland Redevelopment Agency, I directed many of the public and privately funded projects that helped shape Oakland into the town that we celebrate today. For example, I am proud to have managed the completion of the city’s Façade and Tenant Improvement Programs which was integral to attracting ground floor tenants to more than 250,000 SF of vacant space along Oakland’s commercial corridors. In addition, I succeeded in improving grocery presence in some of Oakland’s most problematic food deserts, and served a pivotal role in the development of more than 100,000 SF of newly constructed retail. These projects were large and complicated, and demanded creative, intricate solutions to be successful.
Today as client advocate and advisor, it is very satisfying to bring my extensive market expertise and understanding of the city planning process to my clients’ real estate goals. My commitment is to work tirelessly on every detail of a deal, and to bring meticulous execution to every part of the deal-making process.
I have a great fondness for the city of Oakland and the larger East Bay region, and hope to continue to enhance its value for owners, tenants, and other citizens. I think the individuals who work in the public sector bring admirable vision and skill to the community’s success, and I enjoy the fact that my brokerage work allows me to collaborate with some of the most talented and dedicated individuals working in the city.
Outside of work, I serve as board member for the Alameda County Salvation Army Advisory Board. I also enjoy running, tennis and keeping up with my wife and 5-year old daughter.
