National Income and Product Accounts Gross Domestic Product: Third Quarter 2017
Bureau of Economic Analysis — October 27, 2017
Real gross domestic product (GDP) increased at an annual rate of 3.0 percent in the third quarter of 2017 (table 1), according to the "advance" estimate released by the Bureau of Economic Analysis. In the second quarter, real GDP increased 3.1 percent.

 

Berkshire lawmakers want Boston-Springfield rail study extended to Pittsfield
MassLive — October 25, 2017
As lawmakers discuss whether to study expanded high-speed rail between Springfield and Boston, officials from the Berkshires are trying to get in on the action. A bill pending before the Transportation Committee would instruct the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to conduct a feasibility study of establishing high-speed passenger rail between Springfield and Boston.

 

Cambridge City Council approves MIT’s Volpe zoning petition
MIT News — October 23, 2017
In an agreement with the federal government, MIT will build a new headquarters for the Volpe Center on approximately four acres of the parcel, and now with the city’s zoning approval, the Institute will advance a detailed plan to redevelop the remaining 10 acres. MIT’s proposal includes housing, commercial and lab space, retail, open space, and a variety of active community uses.
