GE’s Boston headquarters may soon feel a pinch

General Electric’s Boston headquarters will not emerge unscathed from new chief executive John Flannery’s efforts to slice expenses from the giant industrial conglomerate’s budget. GE is making plans to significantly reduce corporate costs, the Reuters news agency reported Thursday, and has already frozen hiring for certain technology positions. Flannery has told top executives to prepare for cuts at headquarters and other parts of the company that do not produce revenue or profits, according to the report, which cited an anonymous source familiar with the internal discussions.

 


Facebook, planning major Cambridge expansion, aims to hire 500

In July, the Business Journal was first to report that Facebook was quietly on the search for up to 120,000 square feet of space in Boston or Cambridge. The social networking giant on Wednesday confirmed it has found an office.

Landmark Center expansion will focus on offices, not housing now

Former Brighton office building redeveloped into new housing
Boston Herald — August 28, 2017

Gov. Charlie Baker and Mayor Martin J. Walsh praised the redevelopment of a Brighton office building as an example of how Boston needs to address housing demand.The six-story Nova Residences on Commonwealth Avenue has 80 one- and two-bedroom units, including 10 affordable units, in an eight-story building that once housed Baker’s gubernatorial campaign headquarters. Rents range from $1,850 to $3,250.
