BOSTON, MAY 2018 - Colliers International announces that Rose Liu, Director of Finance & Research at Colliers International Long Island office, was recognized this spring with a notable real estate development award. At the annual Real Estate Weekend hosted at Harvard University, Liu coached a group consisting of real estate professionals and students from MIT, Harvard and New York University to victory in a simulated redevelopment workshop against teams of industry professionals and students from UPenn, Princeton and Columbia University.
Liu’s five-member team won top honors from judges in the competition, which held on March 24. The workshop was aimed to simulate a general request for proposal process that real estate professionals must go through to qualify for new redevelopment projects. The two-day Real Estate Weekend was organized jointly by the Real Estate Clubs of GSD and Harvard Business School and was attended by Ivy League students, industry professionals and executives from Blackstone, Starwood, RXR and more.
“I’m proud to bring home this award as a representative of Colliers,” said Liu. “It was my honor to work with talented professionals and students from some of our country’s finest universities and to impart industry knowledge to the next generation of real estate professionals.”
The workshop’s challenge was to design plans for a real redevelopment project located at 60 Everett Street in the Allston neighborhood of Boston. Liu’s team proposed a mixed-use modern community including terrace-designed 1,000 residential units, retail, parking, office and a new Stop & Shop to be completed in two phases. Teams were each assigned a coach who is employed in the real estate industry and each team presented their proposals to a jury of industry executives and senior Harvard Graduate School of Design (GSD) faculty. Teams created proposals from scratch in a four-hour time frame.
"Congratulations to Rose Liu of Colliers International for her collaboration in the Harvard Graduate School of Design Real Estate Weekend,” said Guy Stutz, Vice President of real estate at Ahold Delhaize. Ahold Delhaize owns the Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. LLC, which includes the Allston neighborhood location chosen for the redevelopment workshop. “Her team’s creative approach and design of the redevelopment of our Allston Yards site in Boston, MA was a testament to the extraordinary learning experience and energy created by this great development charrette."
During her time at Colliers, Liu has specialized in performing financial analytics in capital markets, leasing and development projects. She has generated multiple large leads and engaged various Colliers service lines globally to completing various assignments with respects to massive residential/office development with total development costs of over $9 billion in the U.S. in the past two years. Ms. Liu achieved her MBA in Finance from Stony Brook University and has completed some coursework in the M.S. in Real Estate at Schack Institute of Real Estate at New York University.
