Seattle Urban Academy to Relocate to Former Church Property


SEATTLE, WA – In a transaction arranged by Colliers International, CRISTA Ministries recently purchased the Amazing Grace Lutheran Church at 10056 Renton Avenue S in Seattle for $3.6 million. The acquisition included a 7,300-square-foot church building, 7,800-square-foot elementary school and 2.2 acres of surrounding land in a high-visibility location in southeast Seattle.

Colliers’ Matt McGregor and Bill Condon represented CRISTA Ministries, while Kim Hutchins and Steve Pelluer advised Amazing Grace Lutheran Church.

CRISTA Ministries will relocate its Seattle Urban Academy to the recently purchased Renton Avenue S property from 3800 South Othello Street in Seattle, the school’s current leased location. Seattle Urban Academy provides rigorous education to at-risk students at the high-school level, preparing them for college or meaningful employment and helping them contribute to the health of their community.

“Seattle Urban Academy is in expansion mode as it seeks to serve a larger number of students in the city,” noted Mr. McGregor. “The Amazing Grace Lutheran Church property offered both an existing school building as well as a sanctuary well-suited for eventual conversion into additional education facilities.”

Mr. Hutchins added, “The transaction benefitted both organizations. CRISTA Ministries now has the space to expand Seattle Urban Academy’s enrollment, while Amazing Grace Lutheran Church now has additional funds to continue its ministry and serve congregants.”

Amazing Grace’s worship center will relocate to a leased location to be determined in the future. The Amazing Grace Christian School is part of Renton Prep Christian School and will move to its location at 200 Mill Avenue South in Renton. Seattle Urban Academy will open its new school at 10056 Renton Avenue S for the school year beginning in Fall 2019.
