Final Tenant Rounds Out Shift Retail Space in East Village
Colliers’ Urban Property Team leases entire ground-floor retail space of newly-constructed residential tower to craft beer bottle shop, coffee roaster, fitness club and dry cleaner

SAN DIEGO – March 18, 2019 – Colliers International San Diego Region announces that its Urban Property Team has fully leased the 18,840-square foot ground-floor retail space at Shift, a newly completed residential tower located in Downtown San Diego’s East Village neighborhood.

David Maxwell, Serena Patterson, and Bill Shrader of Colliers International’s Urban Property Team represented the landlord and developer of Shift, LMC, a Lennar Company brand focused on multifamily development.

Ale Tales, a San Diego-based craft beer bottle shop, tap room and restaurant, just leased the last remaining space at Shift. Ale Tales will join Red Hat Coffee, a local craft cold brew coffee roaster and taproom; Shelton Family Cleaners, a regional dry cleaning company; and The Boxing Club, a San Diego-based fitness club. The Boxing Club and Red Hat Coffee are now open. Shelton Family Cleaners is expected to open in spring 2019.

The Urban Property Team was able to bring 100 percent of Shift’s ground-floor retail space under contract within four months of completion of construction. All four leases were signed within six months of completion of construction.

“We’re excited to have created a great of mix of beverage, fitness and service concepts that fill a demand for this pocket of the expanding East Village neighborhood,” said David Maxwell, Vice President at Colliers International. “With high vacancy in the neighborhood as nearby projects complete or are still under construction, Shift will now serve as an anchor and encourage more tenants lease space in the area.”

The 368-apartment home, 20-story Shift community is bounded by the blocks of J Street and Island Avenue between 15th and 16th Streets. LMC also recently completed construction of its 220-apartment home tower, Luma in Little Italy where Colliers’ Urban Property Team is handling the leasing of its 4,270-square foot retail space.
