Demand for Parking Leads to Waiting List

  • Parking options are limited and almost non-existent throughout Downtown Charleston.  Downtown’s 17 parking garages offer approximately 8,700 parking spaces, none of which are available.  Individuals interested in a parking space are being placed on waiting lists in hopes of landing a spot.  A demand for new parking facilities is apparent in the market.  
  • A new parking garage is under construction along Upper King Street near the Midtown redevelopment and upon completion should alleviate some of the stress tenants are facing.  The new 304-space, parking garage is anticipated to complete during the second quarter of 2015. 
  • Hourly parking rates in garages averaged approximately $2.00 per hour at mid-year 2014 with maximum daily rates averaging $16.00.
  • Limited garages offer reserved parking spaces with the majority offering unreserved parking.  Unreserved parking rates range from $110 to $175 per month.
