The U.S. retail sector experienced a year of disruption and uncertainty and, if the breathless headlines are to be believed, physical stores are headed for scrap heap of history. Well, take a deep breath and let’s examine the current state of retail, especially brick and mortar in the age of e-commerce. It is true that 21 major retailers filed for bankruptcy during 2017, while there were over 9,000 physical store closures and 170,000 layoffs. But the overall picture looks a little brighter.
